So in Love.....

Okay so anyone who knows me probably knows I am not your everyday average girl. I love things that are off the wall and very much not norm. So I wanted to post some pics that I have found during random dayz of blog reading that I just fell in love with.
Am I taking a chance by posting these photos.. maybe.. not all brides like the off beat bride blog or indie brides..but I can't help but to be drawn to the creativity of these weddings. Not for everyone though. Don't get me wrong I love pretty things just as much as funky!
So during the slow season I am finding photos that I have fallen in love with and I wanted to share them with all of you.
These are not photos of wedding that I have coordinated these are simply random images that I love. Images that I feel represent love in all colors and styles.

Lets hear it for the boyz!!

We girlz tend to get all caught up in the "bridal" aspect of the wedding we sort of forget the reason we are getting married. Let me give you a hint.... that boy!! you know the one you took that first look at and it made your heart skip a beat. So in tribute to the ones that make us act like sillies, I would like to show you some super cool tux options! Especially with the trends that I am seeing now I think these tuxes totally fit the bill.. Not to mention Brandon Flowers from the Killers makes a darn good tux model.

Can my bridez please make their groomz wear something like this? If not, can you please fly Brandon out to attend the wedding. I totally think these are reasonable requests!

All photos from GQ magazine you can also get a great article on how to buy a tux!

Daniel Sroka from Modern Ketubah

I am honored to have a guest blogger, Daniel Sroka, doing my post today. Daniel owns Modern Ketubah and creates amazing works of art in his Ketubahs. Many of you may have read my previous posts on the ketubah so I am so excited to have Daniel tell about them and showcase some of his beautiful prints.

I feel blessed to be able to surround myself with such talented artist of all types. So I will move on to the Q&A with Daniel.

How long has Modern Ketubah been in business and where are you located?

Modern Ketubah has been in business for over 5 and a half years. I work out of my studio in Morristown, New Jersey, but sell nearly all of my ketubahs online through my website.
Can you explain the tradition behind the ketubah?

The ketubah is a beautiful and meaningful part of a wedding ceremony. It is an illustrated document, signed by the bride and groom, which declares their commitment and love. Originally part of the Jewish wedding tradition, its beauty is now embraced by couples from all different backgrounds. In a Jewish wedding ceremony, it is the official contract between bride and groom, whose marriage officially starts the moment it is signed. But at its heart, the ketubah is a personal document between the bride and groom, a work of art hung in the home that serves as a daily reminder of the vows they have made to each other.

I see that you offer the ketubah for not only the traditional Jewish faith but non denominational and christian faiths as well as same sex marriages. Is this a new trend that you are seeing?

While originally part of the Jewish wedding tradition, couples from all different backgrounds have fallen in love with this beautiful custom. A significant proportion of the ketubahs I create are for Interfaith couples, and a growing number are for non-denominational and christian couples. I also create many ketubahs for same-sex couples. Considering the ongoing struggle they are facing to have the marriages recognized, many gay and lesbian couples feel it is very important to preserving their vows in a ketubah.

How many prints are in circulation of each ketubah that you design?
I have created over 800 ketubahs in 22 designs for couples across the US, Canada and the UK.

How did you get started creating Ketubahs?

I got my start making ketubahs by making one for my own wedding. My fiancée Cara and I spent many weeks searching for the right ketubah. We must have looked through hundreds of designs, but none of them was right. Every ketubah we saw seemed to rely on the same well-worn imagery, and did not hold any special meaning for us.We had just planted our first garden, and I had been photographing the flowers as they came into bloom. I was showing Cara some photographs of a very old rose bush that grew at the side of our house, when we suddenly realized that we had found the imagery we wanted for our ketubah. We felt that this ancient rose bush was a beautiful symbol of marriage: a strong and protective vine, anchoring itself deeply to the ground, that produces flowers of beauty, elegance, and strength. It said more to us about marriage than any of the traditional images we had previously seen, so I created our ketubah from this photograph. After our wedding, I got approached by so many people who wanted a ketubah just like it, that I was inspired to start Modern Ketubah. To this day, the most frequest comment I hear from my customers is "finally, after months of searching, we found a ketubah that feels right.

Super 8 video for your wedding?

Right now I am seeing a large number of brides asking for vintage style weddings. Which is great because I love so many era's and there are soooooo many options that we can do a zillion weddings and everyone of them be different.
As I looked through my blog I noticed my mind set really going back and finding great vintage items like the fascinators and parasols and birdcage veils so I asked myself the "what should be next"question. Then it came to me.. what else other then Super 8 film for your wedding video. Nothing to me says nostalgia like Super 8. The camera, the film, the color in my opinion if you want your wedding to really have that vintage feel then you have to have the vintage film!
There are a few companies in this area that offer Super 8 and then there is also a company that you can actually buy a package they send you the camera and film and you volunteer a friend to shoot the video. Mail it all back they process the film and send you a dvd. How cool is that???

If you would like someone local to do the shooting for you visit Iconography Video. You can also see a video sample here.

The 2008 Black Diamond Fantasy

WHAT!!!! Yes a fantasy is exactly the perfect name for this bra.
Every year Victoria Secrets comes out with another Diamond Bra. I must say that last years was rather plain compared to this beauty!

Yeah I know, I will never in my life even get with in 10 yards of a piece like this but geez one can dream. I wonder how it feels on? I mean it can not be very pleasing against the skin but on the other hand 1500 CT. I do not know that I would be unwilling to try it out. Just knowing that I am wearing a $5,000,000.00 bra could put me in a different state of mind.

Not only is it a 1500 CT bra but it is also designed for maximum cleavage enhancement. You get the best of both worlds here really. I am sure the line to buy this baby is out the door and around the block.

Etiquette Shmetiquette

HEY Guess what it is 2008 almost 2009 and in this day and age of weddings anything goes for the most part!

I hear almost daily the words "What is the right way to do........?" I say "How do YOU want to do.......?" These days there is no right or wrong. With the exception of a few traditional religions you are pretty much "allowed" to do what you want on your wedding day. If you want to wear a black , red, or blue wedding dress.. You go girl! If you want your mom to walk you down the aisle, so be it. Best woman and man of honor it is all good!

Yes I said it Emily Post. Etiquette is really just not happening anymore. I mean of course there are a few given things.. Send out the invites at least 6 weeks in advance. Give the guests some time. If you are having a Catholic wedding... well you have no choice but to follow the priest's rules. PERIOD! There is not much maneuvering there.

Wedding cake.. Lets eat cupcakes, lets have cakes on each table, lets have ice cream, lets have cake and ice cream. Pie? What ever you want.

Garter toss not your thing? Nix it all together. Not everyone likes to have the groom stick his head up their gown in front of grandma.

This is YOUR day. Make it yours. You do not have to make it look like cousin Becky's wedding. Make this wedding speak about you. You like to run? Get married on the track everyone in running shoes.

You can and should do exactly what you want to do for your wedding. This is the main event for your new life together it should reflect the two of you. Your hobbies, your dreams, your goals and aspirations. Don't make it a cookie cutter design make it yours!

Lets play with your head!

There are loads of options for your head dress on your wedding day. There are barrettes, combs, veils of many lengths, birdcage veils, feathers, and my favorite the fascinators. These are fun for your head. I do not think they work for every bride but if you can pull it off I say go for it. They are so amazing and carry that vintage style like nobodies business. Not only are they incredibly stylish but you can get a great pop of color with these head pieces. In the following photos I am sure most are white in color but believe me you can get these in any color your heart desires. Take a look and you can find all of these at various etsy.com shops just by searching fascinators in the search box.
